How Much Do Removals to Switzerland Cost?
The cost of removals to Switzerland from the UK depends on how much you are moving, where it is going and how you want it handled. We do not publish a fixed price list, because two moves that look alike on paper can cost very different amounts. This page explains what sets the price, how the main service types compare and how you can bring the cost down without putting your belongings at risk.
What decides the price of a Swiss removal
A quote for a move to Switzerland is built from a handful of things. If you know them in advance, you can compare quotes fairly and spot anything that has been left out.
Volume
The amount you are moving is the biggest factor. A few boxes and a sofa cost far less than a three-bedroom home. A survey, in person or by video, gives the most accurate figure.
Service type
A dedicated vehicle costs more than a shared one, because you are paying for the whole van. Part load means you pay for the space you use. See part-load removals to Switzerland.
Distance and route
Zurich, Basel and Geneva are at different distances from the UK, and mountain destinations take more time. The crossing and the road tolls are part of the cost.
Packing and extras
Packing, dismantling beds and wardrobes, crating and a furniture lift all add time. If you pack yourself, the bill is lower.
Customs and paperwork
Switzerland is outside the European Union, so a move needs export and import paperwork. We include the work we do. Fees charged by authorities are separate.
Dates and storage
Moving in a quiet period is often cheaper than at the end of a month or in summer. Storage before or after delivery is an extra.
Dedicated, part load or furniture only
The choice of service is the lever you can pull most easily. A dedicated move sends one vehicle with only your goods. You choose the dates, the load is not shared, and delivery is usually the quickest. It is the best choice for a full home or for a tight timeline, and it is the most expensive.
A part-load move shares the vehicle with other customers going the same way. You pay for the space you use, so it suits a small flat, a student move or a few large items. The trade-off is that the dates depend on the other loads, so you need some flexibility.
A furniture-only move carries a few large pieces, with dismantling and reassembly if needed. If you are selling or replacing the rest, this can be much cheaper than moving everything. Our removals to Switzerland page explains each option in more detail.

Costs that people forget
Many people compare quotes on the van price alone and then meet extra costs later. Ask every company whether these are included, and get the answer in writing.
First, there are the Swiss rules for the delivery. Many Swiss towns need a permit or a reserved space for a removal vehicle, and quiet hours and Sunday rules can limit when work may be done. We help you arrange this, but the permit itself may carry a fee.
Second, access at the new home matters. Narrow stairs, small lifts and long carries slow the crew down. A furniture lift is an extra cost, but it can protect large items and save time. Third, there is cover for the journey. Ask about goods in transit cover, so that you know what is protected and how a claim works.
Finally, remember any storage if your new home is not ready. It is better to plan for this than to pay for an urgent solution.

How to lower the cost of your move
Most savings come from doing less, or from giving the removal firm more flexibility. These are the changes that make the biggest difference.
Move less. Moving costs depend on volume, so every item you sell, give away or leave behind helps. Furniture that is cheap to replace in Switzerland may not be worth the cost of transport. Go room by room and decide what is really needed.
Be flexible on dates. A part-load move can be much cheaper than a dedicated one. Even if you want a dedicated move, avoiding busy times helps. Tell us your preferred dates and the range you could live with.
Pack some of it yourself. You can pack books, clothes and kitchen items, and ask us to pack only the fragile things. We will give you clear guidance on boxes and labels, so the load is safe and quick to handle.
Prepare the paperwork early. A complete inventory and the right documents avoid delays at the border, and delays cost money. We help you build the inventory and check it against the load.
How a move to Switzerland works, step by step
Knowing the steps helps you see where costs arise and where you can save. A typical move runs in this order.
1. Survey and quote. We list your rooms and large items, by video call or in person, and check access at both addresses. You receive a written quote that shows what is included.
2. Paperwork. We prepare the inventory and the export paperwork, and we tell you which documents the Swiss side will ask for. Starting early keeps the dates firm.
3. Packing and loading. The crew wraps furniture, boxes the rest and labels everything by room. They load carefully, so the vehicle is full but nothing is under pressure.
4. The journey. The vehicle crosses the Channel, drives through France or Belgium and continues to Switzerland. We plan the route and the border crossing in advance.
5. Customs and delivery. The load is cleared at the Swiss border, then delivered to your door. The crew carries everything to the right rooms and can rebuild beds and wardrobes if you asked for it.
Each step can be adjusted, and each adjustment changes the price. If you pack yourself, step 3 is faster. If your new home is not ready, we add storage between steps 4 and 5. If your delivery address is hard to reach, we add equipment. A good quote lists these choices clearly, so you can decide which are worth paying for.
Why we quote after a survey
You can find websites that promise a price in seconds. They usually work from a few answers and a formula, and the real price is confirmed later, after something has changed. We prefer to understand your move first. We ask for a list of rooms and large items, or we look around your home by video call, and we check the Swiss address for access.
Then we send a written quote that says what is included and what is not. If something changes before the move, we tell you early and explain why. With more than ten years of experience in international removals, we have seen most of the problems that appear on the way, and we plan for them before they cost you money.
If you are still deciding whether to move, our guide to moving to Switzerland from the UK covers customs, timing and what to expect on arrival. If you already know where you are going, the pages on removals to Zurich and removals to Geneva explain the local details.
Switzerland removal costs: common questions
Is part load cheaper than a dedicated move?
Usually yes. With part load you pay for the space you use, and the vehicle is shared. A dedicated move costs more but gives you fixed dates and a vehicle that carries only your belongings.
Can you give me a price without a survey?
We can give an early idea from a list of rooms and large items, but the written quote is more accurate after a survey. A video survey takes a short time and avoids surprises on the day.
Are customs fees included in the quote?
Our quote includes the paperwork work that we do. Duties or fees charged by the authorities are separate, and people moving their home can often bring household goods in without duty if they have the right documents. We explain what applies to your move.
Does the time of year change the price?
It can. Busy periods, such as the end of a month or the summer, are in demand. Moving at a quieter time, or being flexible on dates, often helps.
Is packing included?
Packing is optional. You can pack everything, ask us to pack only the fragile items, or hand us the whole job. The quote shows what is included, so you can compare options.
What if my move costs more than expected?
We aim to avoid this by quoting after we understand the move. If something changes, such as extra items or a different delivery address, we tell you before we go ahead and explain the reason.

The Elite team were brilliant!!! We were so pleased and impressed with the service. 1. They listened to what we wanted and made it happen on the dates we needed. 2. They offered a very competitive price compared to multiple other quotes that I got with a discount for early booking - and they stuck to that price. 3. They brought a smart black new-ish lorry and trailer that had plenty of capacity for our estimate. 4. Scott and Dan were a brilliant team (extra people came to help load and unload) with clearly lots of experience in driving, navigating customs, loading and unloading with lots of care for our belongings, packing efficiently, and all the right equipment including a piano trolley! 5. On top of everything else, Scott and Dan were always very polite, took care to keep the houses clean, and took pride in their jobs and were very professional. We would absolutely go to them again without looking anywhere else.
I would highly recommend Elite, they handled a move from the UK to France for us - great team and made all the paperwork and customs a breeze.
Thank you for helping me move my stuff safely. Amazing and quick service. They handle things very professionally. Will definitely recommend them to my friends and family. Thank you
The Team at Elite moving were fantastic. The service they provided was tailored, good value for money, attentive and polite. They treated our belongings with respect and carefully packed up all our art works which were fragile and valuable. We had some concerns about completion timeframes and they were patient and accommodating. The stress of the move was markedly reduced. Thank you, Elite Moving. I recommend you wholeheartedly.
Moving home is stressful … but Ranjan and his team made light work of my move. They were punctual, delivered an exceptional job and tidied everything before leaving
