Tips for Successful Furniture Relocation to the Netherlands

Tips for Successful Furniture Relocation to the Netherlands

Moving abroad is easier when you plan it with care. Follow these tips to make your furniture move smooth and simple from the start:

1. Plan Ahead

Book your furniture removals to the Netherlands at least 8–12 weeks ahead. Planning early can get you better rates and makes sure we have space. It also gives you time to sort out packing and the rest of the plan.

2. Create an Inventory

Listing all your items helps when you go through customs. Write down the type of each piece of furniture, its value and its condition. A clear list cuts delays and makes sure nothing goes missing.

3. Choose Insurance Coverage

Elite Moving gives full insurance for your furniture during moves abroad. Insurance gives you peace of mind, as it covers damage you did not expect on the road. Protecting what you have paid for is key to a move free of stress.

4. Consider Eco-Friendly Options

We care about the planet. We use packing materials that are kind to the environment, and we plan our routes to cut carbon. Choosing a green service does some good while you still get a high-quality move.

5. Organise Your Space

Get your new home in the Netherlands ready before you arrive. Measure the rooms and plan where each piece of furniture will go. This makes unloading and putting things together faster, so you settle in quickly.

6. Disassemble Large Furniture

Furniture Removals to the Netherlands: FAQs

Will my furniture fit up the stairs of a Dutch canal house?

Often not. Canal houses are known for very steep, narrow stairs, so sofas, wardrobes and beds may not fit. We plan for this by taking large pieces apart where we can, and by using the hoist beam or a furniture lift to bring items in through a front window. We check your building and street before the day.

Do I need to list every piece of furniture for Dutch customs?

Yes, customs want a clear list of what is in the load. For furniture, that means each main piece, such as a sofa, table or wardrobe, with boxes listed by contents. A good list speeds up the check at the border and helps with any claim. We help you write it as we pack, so nothing is missed.

Can you collect some furniture now and deliver the rest later?

Yes. You might take a few key pieces now and leave the rest in storage until you have more space. We can split the move, keep the second part in safe storage in the UK and bring it over when you are ready. Each part needs its own customs list, and we help with both.

Is a shared van a good option for moving a few pieces of furniture?

Yes, if you are only sending a few pieces, such as a sofa, a bed and some boxes. A shared van carries goods for several people going to the Netherlands, so you only use the space you need. Each item is wrapped and strapped so it does not move on the road. Dates are a little more flexible than with your own van.

I chose Elite Moving after reading many reviews from various moving companies across different review platforms. I also texting and called the contact person and asked a lot of questions about our move from London to Southern Spain.
Elite exceeding our expectations and special thanks go out to Vijithan as he was always prompt answering my questions and keeping us informed on the move as the date got closer. This is a family run business that does an excellent job of easing the stress of moving. We had a previous move in 2023 from California to UK/ London that was fraught with issues ( lost boxes, damage to expensive furniture etc., luckily we got extra insurance but it was still traumatic).
This is why I started my search many months ahead of our move date in late July 2025 which is advisable if you want to secure a date in the busy season and a better price.
Vijithan is a smart guy who knows the in and outs of this business and was prompt with correspondence on WhatsApp. I also talked to him on the phone a few times and he made me feel very comfortable trusting Elite with our belongings.
I packed our own boxes as I had some saved from 2023 move but also bought some boxes from Elite as their price and quality( double walled ) is much better then stores like B & Q and Amazon.
Elites crew disassembled our beds and wrapped and protected our furniture and ceramic large vases very well and with care. Moving day was long but went well and the crew was careful not to mark walls as they carried our furniture down the narrow Victorian stairwells.
We met the truck at the storage facility in Spain where our belongings are stored while we rent and look at houses.
We highly recommend Elite moving. Their prices are fair and competitive. They stay available from start to finish.
Note: Elite did not sub out any of the job and they have their own trucks with hard body sides.

I used Elite Moving for a move at the end of June. The team - Vijay and Ranjan were professional, courteous and extremely diligent. They dropped off boxes before the day of the move and took extra care to pack and care for all my belongings. The only reason I did not give them a 5 star rating is because, a third person was supposed to assist with the move and did not show up on the day causing things to get delayed. While it was not their fault, I think it is one of the kinks they will need to work out as part of a new business. Despite this, they worked very hard to ensure I was into my new place as efficiently as possible. I would highly recommend them and use them again.
